Earth Hour 2008

Thought I'll blog about something that is important to me.
Some of you might have heard about last years Earth Hour event in Sydney. Where most of the cities lights were turned off for just one hour to take a stand for a better planet and to save energy. This event has turned into a movement where cities, individuals and businesses sign up online.

"It started with a question: How can we inspire people to take action on climate change?

The answer: Ask the people of Sydney to turn off their lights for one hour.

On 31 March 2007, 2.2 million people and 2100 Sydney businesses turned off their lights for one hour - Earth Hour. This massive collective effort reduced Sydney's energy consumption by 10.2% for one hour, which is the equivalent effect of taking 48,000 cars off the road for a year."

This year Earth Hour 2008 it's going to happen on March 29th at 8pm. I'm happy I live in a city that also signed up for this event. Whoohoo Montreal! And I am going to participate, that's for sure. :)
